Is it really free?
Yes, with a number attached. Without an account you get a free preview on the home page, no signup. A free account converts 10 images a month at up to 2 megapixels, with no card and no trial clock. Paid plans start at $9 a month and convert in the browser without a monthly ceiling; the API is sold separately by volume and starts on Pro.
Why do cut files need closed paths?
A cutting machine follows the outline of a shape. An open path makes the blade lift and reposition, which shows up as a rough edge. Clipart mode traces regions rather than strokes, so every outline it produces closes on itself.
Will it work with Cricut Design Space?
The output is plain SVG with no exotic features, which is what Design Space, Silhouette Studio and similar tools import. We don't ship a machine-specific profile — check the result on a test cut before committing material, as you would with any traced file.
How do I get rid of the background?
Start from a PNG with a transparent background and it stays empty in the SVG. If your source is flattened onto a solid color, that color comes back as one shape sitting behind everything — select it in your cutting software and delete it, which is a single click.
How do I keep the cut simple?
On Pro and above, drop the detail level: it merges more regions and drops nodes, which is exactly what a cutter wants. Strong smoothing also helps — it rounds off the wobble a tracer leaves on a scanned edge while keeping real corners sharp.
What about layered, multi-color designs?
Each color region comes back as its own path, so you can separate them by color in your cutting software and cut one sheet per color. We don't split the file into per-color documents for you.
